Cerebral Palsy- A Half Solved Puzzle

Cerebral Palsy is defined as a disorder of movement and posture that is a result of a non - progressive abnormality of the immature brain. However, this definition hides the complexity of the disorder and its tendency to change over time. Furthermore, despite advances in modern medicine, there is little evidence that the prevalence of this disorder is decreasing. The needs for care of children with cerebral palsy are likely to remain unchanged for the foreseeable future.

It was recognized many years ago that the complexity of cerebral palsy warranted a team approach to care. The Prerna Welfare Society provided financial resources to support childhood disability services that included multidisciplinary clinic for children with cerebral palsy. One such institute was set up in New Delhi. Since its inception, this idea of a team approach has evolved into a programme that forms the basis of the training courses.
